Tower Sporting Challenge and Sleeping outside in
Cardboard City Jan 20th 2008
At 7.30 pm 63 Boys started the sporting challenge (in the new fitness
suite) which consisted of :
·
Cycling 187km (from Cheltenham to
London) in a 4 man relay in less than 2 Hours
·
Running the marathon in a relay in
under 3 Hours
· Rowing 48000m (from London to the sea) in a 2 man relay
in under 2 Hours
Results :
We ran the Marathon in 2 Hours and 42 Mins
That's an average speed of 15.5km/h
We rowed 48000km in 1 Hour 35 Mins
Unfortunately cycling at 25km/h for 7.5 Mins was a bit too far
We missed our target by 30km.

Cardboard City :
At 10.30pm 55 of the boys built their make shift homes from Cardboard boxes (some were
quite palatial) at around 2am/3am a few were too cold and wet to carry on and
did the sensible thing by going inside.
When I woke at 7.15am (and 4 degrees) I found 22 of
the boys had made it through the night (and Mrs Stokes and Matron!) Some of the
boys even wanted a lie in.
I think all the boys involved, even if only for an hour or
so, experienced what it must be like for the many homeless children around the
UK everyday. I don't think they will forget it.
Many thanks for
all you support and sponsorship.
